Caravans & Motorhomes

Caravans and camper vans are a great way to get away and relax but it isn’t all relaxation. Other than getting to site and setting up there is the ongoing maintenance that is required. One very important area that must not be ignored is water.

Water tanks and pipework must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after periods of disuse and great care must be taken to ensure that the containers and hoses used to collect water are thoroughly cleaned.

Remember that while you may take care while using water outlets on a site, others may not be so careful.

Also, consider the site you are on. Does the site have stringent water hygiene management plan and testing schedule for the quality of drinking water? Don’t be afraid to ask. Many sites have a private water supply that could be from bore holes or wells. Can you be sure that the water you are using isn’t contaminating your tanks?

Do not forget the other water sources on site that can harbour Legionella such as shower and toilet blocks. Never be afraid to ask to see the sites Legionella Management Plan. A properly managed site will always be happy to show you.
