Well who’s enjoying this spell of hot weather we’re having? Love it or hate it there’s no avoiding it and if your like me your looking for any means possible to cool down! Cold drinks, paddling pools, running through sprinklers even?! And as some areas are already finding the implementation of hose pipe bans it looks like the flowers and garden areas are going to start suffering too. As to those hose pipes, with the temperatures increasing the water left in the pipes becomes warmer and warmer providing an ideal new home for those horrible Legionella bacteria to thrive, yuk! So what to do? if you flush the pipe through your pushing the bacteria through potentially forcing the bacteria into the atmosphere via water droplets – but lets try to stop this before it happens so….
• DRAIN HOSES AFTER USE TO AVOID BACTERIA BUILD UP
• DON’T LEAVE YOUR HOSE IN FULL SUN AS THE RISK OF THE LEGIONNAIRES BUG DEVELOPING IN WARM CONDITIONS INCREASES
• KEEP WATER STORAGE BUTTS & TANKS CLEAN BY SCRUBBING & EMPTYING ONCE A YEAR
For the buffs out there Legionella bacteria can grow and reproduce if water temperature is between 20c and 55c (68f – 113f) Although rare Legionnaires’ can be a fatal – Stay safe out there and we’re here too for any help and advice so please feel free to get in touch.
